When I was a kid we had to walk to school 5 miles, one way, in the snow, uphill, both ways.

I was in HS living in Anderson, IN and yes, I do remember. The snow got piled up high enough that it was even with the school bus windows as we tried to get to school. As a youngin', it was a blast making snow caves. tunnels, snow slides, etc. But in terms of getting around, our house was at the bottom off the hill our neighborhood was on, so driving was impossible the first couple days. Bit by bit everyone helped each other dig out. It was very impressive.

What a memory! and what a snow! I can't imagine. The only thing we ever have to dig out is our windshield wipers!

I remember it-I was a teen ager in Ohio when it hit. It occurred the week of my 16th birthday. Later that year they were selling t-shirts that said "I survived the Blizzard of '78"

Awesome. I would love to winter somewhere where you build forts and tunnels in the snow. Think we could get some sort of exchange system? I come up there for your winters, you come down here for my tornado seasons??

I remember the WHOLE dang winter of '78 if it wasn't snowing. it was dang cold I would be out EVERY Saturday shoveling out the dang driveway and by the 5th time I was sick of snow!!!

Had a hotel burn down in December on a night it reached 20 below and was so cold hot black coffee when thrown in the air turned into white snow. [BTW this was in Maine]
