SKYWARN ID Number
Can anyone tell me how I can find out what my Skyward ID number is? I have been less active for medical reasons and I am now able to get more involved... but I can't find my number

yeah, I don't think we have ID numbers... If you're reffering to the letters you see next to everyones names around here, it's probably their callsign for Amatuer Radio. We use HAM radio to communicate with weathernet and the like to report severe weather. You may see callsigns in several forms i.e. "KE5HHD" or "KV5U" or "N5SSI" on the webmaster page, it has the webmasters' callsigns. It's not and ID for SKYWARN. To learn more about HAM radio and obtaining an ARL check out www.qrz.com or www.arrl.org qrz will help you find scheduled tests, study classes/ materials, and practice exams in your area. If you already know wbout this and I wasted my time... uhhh... sorry..

We are issued an ID number by the NWS.... you are to use it when you call in a report which (according to the training we were given) is supposed to give us priority as being "trained" spotters. The number used to appear on the mail I received from the NWS... but I have not received any for a while and cannot locate an old newsletter to get the number from...

My I suggest you contact your NWS Office through their website and request how one can recover their SKYWARN ID Number,I'm sure they will assist you.
At the Wakefield Office we have an e-mail contact.

Hi Osucop,
You should still have your spotters id card but, if not the NWS office nearest you will have it on file. Your state skywarn website will have the number to call. Good luck.

we neve got id cards. I had no idea that they gave us numbers. I am very close to the woman that runs the skywarn session every year in the area. She has mentioned nothing of the sort. Good to know, I'm going to go harass the NWS right now... I might ask some fellow storm chasers in the area as well if the NWS is fruitless...

Not every NWS office will issue ID numbers. At one time our office did issue ID numbers which consisted of two sets of numbers such as 154-23 which was nothing more than the compass heading and distance of your location relative to the NWS office at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Several years ago they decided to drop assigning ID numbers and don't assign them anymore.

I.D. Numbers
In Tennessee, I.D. numbers are issued by NWS Nashville, but not Memphis. Possibly that has changed since last year.

As mentioned previously, not every NWS issues spotter numbers. If yours did, contacting them is the easiest solution.

I went to another storm spotter class tonight and the meterologist from the Birmingham National Weather Service said they don't use call numbers anymore, nor do they issue them. He said they use to, but have decided not to do it anymore.
