SKYWARN ONLINE CONTINUES TO GROW
2009 has been a busy year. Let's recap what's happened over the past six months.- We're averaging over 360 site visits every day (up from 240 last year)
- We've had over 76,800 site visits
- Our site was Googled over 8,500 times
- We have over 500 new members (Welcome!)
- You've created over 1,300 threads and 10,000 posts
- There are currently over 240 blogs posts
The site continues to grow and I want to thank each and everyone of you for spreading the word about SKYWARN™ ONLINE!
How can I help spread the word about SKYWARN ONLINE?
I added a new feature to the site this past month. If you look at the top of every thread you will see and . If you have a Facebook or a Twitter account you can now share this site and forum threads with your friends and family.
Skywarn Class Search was a hit!
At the beginning of the year I released a new feature called Skywarn Class Search. Member and Guests were able to enter their zip code to find a Skywarn class near them, and it even included a Google Map.
Class information were entered by a team of volunteers from this site. They kept checking local NWS office websites and then entered the classes into our database. As the class dates passed the classes would automatically drop off.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out with the project. I hope that you're all able to help out again for next year.
Photo Contest
This year we had our first ever photo contest. While we had some bugs to work out I think it was a success. Jason Foster won.
Member jasonminnesota won the contest for March.
We'll be launching a new contest on July 5. Here is a review of the details:- I will create a thread where members will submit one picture.
- Members will have two weeks to submit their pictures.
- Once the two week period is up, I will close the thread and create a voting thread where I will have all the pictures numbered.
- Voting will take place for one week.
- After the week is up the winner will be announced and a prize given.
A complete list of rules can be found here.
4th of July Banner
A big THANK YOU goes out Joe (Lake_Effect) for another great banner! I appreciate the many that he makes for us every year.
Hurricane Season 2009
We're one month into the 2009 Hurricane Season. So far there have been no named storms.

Now is the time to prepare. Check out these sites from the American Red Cross and Department of Homeland Security:
SKYWARN ONLINE Version 3
SKYWARN ONLINE started out as only a forum. Then it grew into a full website. Now it's time to plan for the future.
Later this summer I will begin work on the next version of the site, Version 3 (v.3). Since I made this site for you, I would like you're input on what you'd like to see.
If you'd like to make a suggestion, please click Site Version 3 Suggestions and start a New Feature for each one.
Absence of Monthly Newsletters
My sincerest apologies to all of you for the lack of monthly newsletters this year. As the economy changed so did my priorities. I had to put more focus on my job and less on my recreational activities.
I have decided to change to quarterly newsletters instead of monthly ones. This will give my team and I more time to prepare, include more content and in the end, provide you with a higher quality newsletter. And, if anyone would like to submit articles or content please let me know.
Look for the next newsletter October 1. Articles should be submitted no later than September 1.
Wrap Up
Again, thank you all for visiting this site. It makes me very happy seeing the visit counts every day, knowing that my team and I are providing you with a site that you enjoy coming back to. We truly are becoming...
The #1 Online Resource for SKYWARN
See you in the forums!
